I <3 The Godfather.

When I first entered high school, there was something I knew I needed to do. Apparently to me, this meant watching the entire Godfather trilogy. My whole life up to that point had been full of confusion surrounding this apparent Mecca of American pop culture. You know me- ever since I read my first Disney Adventures magazine, I was hooked by pop culture. And if I don’t understand an allusion… sometimes a part of me dies.
It’s a way for me to forge my own being. If I see what others are doing or saying, I ponder if I like doing or saying the same thing, and this is how an Ali is made. Or sometimes I go off in this weird direction. I think that was apparent with my “Hanes homemade t-shirt” phase. I was the crazy person who could sing all of Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame soundtrack (before I met Sarah), name more than five movies of John Leguizamo before I’d seen any of them, and say quotes from movies I’ve never seen, either. To this day, I think I am the only one who has seen the whole Godfather trilogy… or at least all through out high school. You should see it! Forget everything you think about it- it’s just amazing.
Well, without going into this spiel, I just wanted to say that I cry everytime I see a Godfather movie. I know what’s going to happen in each of them, but even if the Corleone family is full of modbsters, Michael’s eternal want to be “legitimate” is touching. My favorite parts are in Part I, when Apollonia blows up and when the Don has a heart attack in the garden, and in Part II… the end sequence. So good. I cry. Plus, I liked it when Talia Shire was beaten. PERFECT, in some horrible dv way.
I found out today that unlike other people, I really like British and American cultures. I am not sure why. America is so unique. And I like folk music. Well, I already knew that.
The weekend was good. Lots of work- 25 pages of research project done and turned in. I have my first exam tomorrow at 4, so lots of studying for that tonight. Maybe “How I Met Your Mother” is new, too! Exciting, I tell you. I got sort of mini-addicted to MySpace on Sunday, and that made me sick of myself. After all that time… tsk tsk, such a walking oxymoron.
How much double-stick tape do you think Paris Hilton uses each year? I need some.
